Corgi Day?

This morning my newsfeed announced that it was National Welch Corgi Day.

I begrudgingly thought it was only appropriate to honor Miss Shirley...

But then I saw that International Corgi Day was scheduled for June 4, 2021...

What the heck, another day to honor her?

I did find yet another day,

International Corgi Day is April 20!

Shirley said it's going to be a big celebration so she's cleaning house...

And getting supplies...

It's going to be a big one!

Which is making Winnie rather disgruntled...

How about that?!?

One whole post without photos of grandkids!

Think again!

Bathing Beauties!

Last night after dinner,  Tony came over to give the girls their baths!

Shirley, being a corgi, is shedding her summer coat.

What a mess!

Before I go on, I need to talk....

There are some things in nature that I do not understand:

Giraffes

And why corgis have to shed their summer coat before winter...

I mean, why not just add more hair?

Okay, so Shirley is shedding so bad that every day tufts of hair
float through the house like tumbleweeds.

Tony wrapped her in a towel and carried her upstairs to my bathroom...

Next came Winnie...

Afterward, in typical dog style, they pranced and raced around!

Winnie acted like a pup even though she is 11

We so appreciated it when Tony volunteered to do it...

I will admit that I was dreading the clean up...

When I  went upstairs, my bathroom was spotless!

Thanks, Tony, we appreciate it!

The Day After Christmas

Ahhhhhhhhhh
or should I say...
grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I walked into my living room and saw this:

remember the tree fiasco that we thought was fixed?

I think not...

Then I realized that my tree skirt was missing...

Didn't take long to find it?

What does this mean?
What is the universe (and the dogs) trying to tell me?

I know, I once left my tree up in the corner until...
Let's just  say it was before Easter when I took it down...

~sigh~

Call of the Wild...

I'm having a terrible time sitting here, typing, when the sun is on my back!

It's going to be in the 70's again today...but with a chance of thunder storms this afternoon!

That brings back memories of the LAST thunderstorm...

The one where I had a trembling, drooling, whining Corgi on my lap,
right beside a scared, clutching two year old,

who was scaring the jeebers out of an old Basset Hound who just wanted peace and quiet!

I wanted to get up and google places that never have thunder storms.
Especially since I am afraid of them too.

(This is TMI, but when I get scared of nervous, I get the poops.  This was so common that my family began rating storms by my trips to the bathroom:
"Wow, that was a bad storm last night; I think it was a three pooper!"
or "They are predicting a bad storm tonight, maybe even a five pooper!)

I finally figured out what to do with Winnie...

And Locklan soon settled down...

But Shirley was having a terrible time!

I researched, asked, investigated...

I was finally advised to buy a...

Thundershirt!

Since storms were predicted again the next day, I headed to PetSmart to purchase one for $40.

Forty dollars!  I won't even pay that much for a shirt for me (just kidding, you know I would!)

Did it work?  Yessss...you could say it did.  We never got another thunder storm,
which is why we don't have a photo of Shirley wearing it!

Now, back to what I was saying...

It's now 74 according to my desk top thermometer.

I have a load of laundry to do...

I need to sweep the dog hair into submission in the family room...
I need to sweep the leaves out of the garage (how to they get there?)...
I need to organize my schedule for the rest of the week (and Easter)...
I have three quilt tops ready for basting...
Two ready to quilt...

But will I?

Probably not.

The sunshine is calling!

On the other hand,

Andy and Locklan came over yesterday.  Since it was raining, Andy put Ashley's car in our garage and did some maintenance (it's all Greek to me).

Locklan helped!

It's so much fun to see him imitate us!

After a while, he came upstairs to eat.

When his belly was full, he asked for a blanket!

Not that comfy, but he was happy!

Okay, I'm feeling guilty.
I need to get something done.

See you next time!

Time for a mani-pedi!

On Monday, I lead Winnie, Tony's basset hound, into my car...

I lied to her.  I told her we were going on a great adventure!

Truth is, we were on our way to Beth's Pooch Parlor to get her nails trimmed.

Winnie HATES to have that done...

I felt so guilty, after we left Beth's
(no photos of that...Winnie was not the most gracious client)

We  headed right for...

Cheeseburger land!

She wolfed down her burger but did graciously allow me
to remove the pickles before I gave it to her...

Was I forgiven?

No!

But when her Daddy came later, she allowed him to comfort her...

No excuses!

I'm retired, I have no kids at home and this week, I don't even have a husband at home...

You would think I'd have time to blog every day, wouldn't you?

I just don't understand it!

I want to tell you about the great times we had at the river last week, and I will, but lots of other things are going on as well...

Let me share...

Shirley keeps us hopping!  She is into everything and anything.  She insists on chasing the broom, so when I go to sweep (which is often since I have two shedding dogs here), I either put her in her crate, or let her annoy Winnie...

Every time she goes upstairs, she makes a bee line for Mr.K's bathroom.  She thinks he hangs a roll of toilet paper there for her amusement.

He doesn't feel the same way, so we try to keep her down stairs with gates, barriers...all kinds of things.  Still, this...

Is not unusual.  How does she get through?

For more excitement, Mr,K's grandson, Nick, got this...

His driver's license!

I renewed my relationship with my hammock...

it's such a wonderful place to  read (kindle?) before bed...those warm summer nights are the best!

Mr.K's grand daughter, Larissa, decided to try it too...

but she had company!

Tony finally got Mr.K out on the driving range...

They were both pleased with his progress!

I got to babysit this little guy...

Doesn't he look our of sorts?

He wasn't feeling well at all...

Shirley decided she could make him feel all better...

She gave him a kiss...

And they both snuggled in for a little cuddle...

Mr.K and I were able to take his grandson, Johnny, out for a birthday dinner...

Because some people can be poop heads, we have not seen him in two years!

Mr. K was thrilled!

I decided I needed a Christmas quilt
(in reality, my collection of Christmas fabric was taking over my sewing room...

It's still a work in progress...subject to change?

And to top things off,

Tony's phone has a mind of it's own...

And that's why I don't have time to update my blog...

But when I do...

I'll tell you about this...

and this...

and this...

and even this...

And more!

See ya soon?

Rolling on the River!

After what seemed like months of rain, rain and more rain, we had two sunny Sundays in a row...

I rustled up some grub...

or at least a crock pot of ham barbecue;
not just ANY barbecue, though.

I used a recipe Mr.K's mother used when she had card club.

Me, when it was time to make barbecue, I opened a bottle.
This time, I actually cooked it...with things I never knew were needed for barbecue sauce!
It was very good!

Tony, the girls (Shirley and Winnie) and I headed up to the river early, before the crowd.

We have that routine, first able bodied male that gets there has to cut the grass...

And get the first bee sting!

But it always looks so nice when it's done...

Afterwards, he opened the boat and got it ready...

And took a break.
It was so humid and hot!

Tony filled the pool for Shirley, but Shirley needed a little help figuring it out...
So Tony threw an empty water bottle in the pool for her to retrieve...

And when that didn't help, Tony took action!

She stayed in the water for .05 seconds!

We still had time before Mr.K and his family came, so we turned on the air conditioner...
and told Winnie and Shirley to wait inside...

While we took the kayaks out for a spin...

Ever since I admitted...on this blog...that I cannot swim,
the kids make me wear a life jacket when we do anything on the water...

We went up the river...

Checking out all the docks and toys people have on the water...

We even saw this...

A bicycle ramp!

I'm not used to paddling...and by time we got back...

I was happy to see our dock!

We took a break and then the rest of our company came...

Nick and Annett, Mr.K's grandson and daughter-in-law...

Everyone was anxious to take the boat out for a ride...

I volunteered to stay behind with the dogs...

I guess I looked pretty pathetic, sitting on the stairs...
but hey!  Didn't they do a nice job on them?

The first thing they had to do was get Mr.K in the boat!

That wasn't too bad...

Incidentally, don't you just love that sign on top of the stairs?
Andy found it a while ago and saved it for these stairs...
BUT
at the end of May, I took a terrible fall down the stairs in our house
and he wasn't sure that I would think it was funny...

I love it!

They finally got everyone loaded into the boat...

And off they went!

They were gone for quite a while, Tony gave them the grand tour,
and when they came back, they were starving!

We got out our bare buns...

And had a feast!

Tony and Nick decided they wanted to kayak.

Tony showed Nick how to get his kayak down the hill to the river...

It didn't work quite as well as he hoped...

But soon, they both got in the kayaks and had a good time...

Then Tony got the bright idea to go paddle boarding...

We all shouted that he was losing his swim trunks...

And being the over achiever that he is...

But he did have success, both with his swim trunks and his attempt to paddle board!

Later, we all decided to take the boat out for the last spin of the day...

Mr. K helped Shirley get her life jacket on...and they were ready!

Tony suggested Rick take the driver's seat...

After all, he was confident in his step-brother's ability...

Seriously, my family and Mr.K's family are both water families!

Tony wasn't really nervous,
but Shirley?

 She was terrified!

We tried to comfort her...

Finally, Tony took her up front, away from the wind...

She finally calmed down, but I don't think she's going to be the water dog we hoped!

We had such a great day!

We were sorry that Andy, Ashley and Locklan couldn't be there...
And Larissa, Mr.K's granddaughter,

But we'll be doing it again soon!
