Angels Everywhere!

Last Friday, it was life as usual.

Andy dropped the kids off and headed off to work.

At lunch time, he came and had lunch with us and then cut the grass.

He used his zero turn to push the trampoline across the yard and left it there.

It keeps the grass under it from dying.

After lunch, I was getting ready to put Teagan for a nap,

Locklan went with Pappy K to run errands.

I posted this picture on Instagram:

I commented:  According to Marie Kondo, if it sparks joy, keep it.
Rocking my granddaughter to sleep is a keeper!

A few minutes later, she woke up just as Mr. K and Locklan were coming in.

The kids headed out to play in the back yard and this is what they saw...

This huge branch had fallen from one of the trees,
and smashed the trampoline!

Andy later estimated it fell 20 feet.

This is where the kids always play.

Tell me there aren't angels watching over them.

(We have emergency calls out to several local tree services to come and evaluate the rest of the trees)

What day is it?

Oh my!

This is a day I could celebrate until the cows come home!

Yes!

I was blessed with almost a million...or close

My dad was one of 12...

We can't figure out when this was taken...
or even why I have it.

This is when they were only 9...

Sadly, there are only 2 left,
the two beauties top and center.
That's my dad beside them.

That family gave me a total of 22 aunts and uncles.

My mom was one of 9.

I know there are photographs of almost all of them together...
but of course, I can't find it!

Here's a photo of the last 3...

That's the three babies of the family, My mom on the right.

That family blessed me with

TEN aunts and uncles!

32 all together!

Oh my goodness, the laughter, tears, hugs and help...

I might add, it's 68 years of being a niece.

Wow, I'm blessed!

Happy Lollipop Day!

It's National Lollipop Day!

Of course, I can't celebrate without honoring my Dum Dum  lady...

Shortly after losing my husband,  the dogs, Tony and I left my dream house,
the house on the hill, the house I believed to be my forever castle.

Even though I was happy to be living in town where there were sidewalks and stores...
Parks and of course my friend and walking partner, Deb.

I was so sad...

One day the dogs were out in the yard and I heard them barking hysterically.

I looked out and there was this tiny woman, just a bit taller than the chain link fence,
standing there looking at the dogs, a lollipop hanging out of her mouth.

She saw me and in this gravelly voice said that she knew I was not Bill, but she wasn't sure if I was Jan or Linda.

If you didn't know, I AM the Jan, Bill and Linda were my English Mastiffs.

I was too stunned to ask how she knew and she didn't seem to think I needed to know.

From then on, I would see her (and her Dum Dum) when Deb and I were out walking.

She was always friendly, happy to see us and made sure we were okay.

She was kind of like the elf on the shelf...you never knew where she would show up,
but you knew she was around...she was tiny and cute...get the picture?

Then, during the summer, we didn't see her for a week.  Someone told me where she lived, and I left a note on her door.

The next day, I went out to find a Dum Dum on the windshield of my car.

Every day that week, and it was stinking hot, I'd find Dum Dums stuck here and there around my house.

Later that week, we found out that she was walking a few hours earlier than usual because it was so hot, but she didn't want us to worry about her.  She called us her Dum Dum girls.

She even formed a bond with Tony...she thought he was the most handsome man in the neighborhood!

One morning, I came out to find a note, scribbled in pencil, on the back of an envelope, in my car.

It was from Darlene, a friend of Jeannie's, saying she had taken Darlene to the hospital, that they thought she had the flu.  She also gave me her phone number.

When I called, I was finally able to put the puzzle pieces together.

Darlene (who I had never met) was the wife of our new neighbor on the hill.

When my son told her husband where I was going, Darlene told Jeannie and I instantly became one of Jeannie's MANY missions.  Her morning walks were her way of checking on all she thought needed checked on.  She was tiny in stature, but had a huge heart...

Jeannie never came home to the her apartment.  She moved on to her heavenly home.

I don't know if I ever knew her birthday,
I just celebrate her on Lollipop day.

Bill, the lap dog!

Linda Lou, duchess of House on the Hill

I wonder what the neighbors thought when I moved in with these...

For the record, that's about 440 pounds of dog.
Bill was 205
Linda was 175
Winnie was 60

Leaf Me Alone!

We don't have a tree in our backyard...

The neighbors around us have many.

Our back yard is fenced in...

Can you say Leaf Collection Site?

Seriously...it's all good...

The leaves collect in the back yard and on our patio
but having a son in the lawn care business makes it all okay!

The other day, Andy and his sidekick, Locklan came over to do the second leaf-sweep of the season...

Andy did the grunt work and Locklan supervised
and handled the heavy equipment!

Isn't he a hoot?!?

Andy would get a shovel full of leaves and Locklan would blow them off.

Andy's back pack leaf blower is much too heavy for Locklan to move...

It didn't seem to bother him!
Andy is so patient.

And...

Last week, Andy, Ashley, Locklan,
Mr K, Tony and Mindy went out to dinner
and on to watch my nephew, Tyler's hockey game.

Remember this historic game from a few years ago?

Tony has retired, but Tyler is still playing!

Locklan enjoyed working the crowd more than the enjoyed the hockey game...

But we had a great time!

Now for the 'no photo' section...

Last night Andy, Tony, Mindy, Locklan, Mr K and I headed down to my mom's for a pizza
party.  There we met Michael and Catherine and my cousin Mark and his wife Anne who were in from Chicago.

I love getting together with my family!

Now, it's time to get dressed for church.

God is good, ALL of the time!

This is how it's done...

Occasionally, when they are easy on time,
Andy and Locklan will stop on their way to my house in the morning...

For Donuts, of course...

The donut of choice is one with sprinkles...

I did not take this photo.  Photo credit goes to

Locklan LOVES sprinkles...

This is how donuts with sprinkles should be eaten...

Yes, I took this photo, just after Locklan said they are done!

Gotta love him!

He's such a blessing in my life!

Grandma! Come see!

I was sitting on the patio,
enjoying what might have become one of the nicest days this autumn.

From around the corner I hear that sweet voice...

"Grandma!  Look where I are!"

I looked...

Gulp...

I forgot what it was like to have a boy or better yet, a boy who climbs...

He keeps life interesting!

Sweet dreams

When Locklan spends the night with us, he likes to hold onto my finger until he falls asleep.

I sit by his bed and he hangs on,

holding tight.

In minutes...

I feel his tiny hand letting go.

~happy sigh~

I am so blessed!

Sweet dreams!

How time flies!

Remember this?

That is Ashley on the left, her sister, Alicia on the right...

How quickly it turns into this...

Bentley, Alicia's son, on the left,
Locklan, the love of my life, on the right...
aren't they precious?

How quickly time flies!

Enjoy every minute of it!

God bless all y'all!

Thanksgiving! We did it!

Ahhhh, I now have an even greater respect for my mom, who at 80-something still manages to pull off family holiday functions...she even claimed Christmas Eve again this year.  I am happy to report that I did manage to pull Thanksgiving '14 off without too much stress (hah!)...

I started by sitting down and  planning...

Made lists, checked them twice thrice, seventy two times...set the table
and ordered Ron not to go near the dining room...

I agonized over the menu, worried about roasting a turkey for the first time and made Linda a nervous wreck!

The turkey was delicious...

The company superb...

I sat down my camera, gave the blessing and meant EVERY WORD of it.

We ate, laughed, sat back down for dessert and games...

I am truly blessed!

Thanks for stopping by,
God bless you,
Jan

Thanks, thanks and more thanks!

I have so many reasons to be giving thanks this year; perhaps if I share my partial list, I can also get you current on all the wonderful things going on in my life...

So, in no particular order, Let me share with you:

The hubster and his newly forged friendship with Linda Lou:

I'm thankful I can still, at the ripe old age of 63, run AND compete:

And occasionally win:

And be the proud mother of a winner as well:

This was the year I got a wonderful Father's Day gift from Andy and Ashley:

Yes!  it's a

BOY!!!
He'll be here mid-February!!!!!

There is the new home with enough bedrooms for grandchildren to visit:

A wonderful patio in the back:

AND a dressing room for all my shoes!

.

I'm thankful for that darn birthday fairy

and the opportunity to celebrate my mom's 83rd birthday!

We celebrated Ashley's graduation from nursing school...

Of course, it's a no-brainer to remember and be thankful for time on the river...

And bicycle rides!

Ron and I got to go all kinds of neat places, like Thousand Islands,
Atlantic City, Texas and Florida...
And Boston!

As always and forever, I'm thankful for:

 Andy, Vicky, Michael and Tony

 Michael and Catherine

Jamie and Vicky

Andy and Ashley

Tony and Noelle

Whew!  And to think, that's just a partial list...
I could go on and on and on!

Also, I'm so thankful for friends and family who take time to visit my blog!

Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving...
I'll be back soon!
Promise!

Love,
Jan
