Tri-Atha HUH?
Butler County YMCA's Triathalon! Yes...Very early on Saturday morning, all these crazy people gathered together for last minute instructions on how to expose your body to unbelievable trials and tribulations. I was shocked to see how many crazy people there are in our neck of the woods.
The first thing they explained was how there would be four 'heats' starting the race, each wearing a different colored swim cap.
Andy was in heat #1 wearing orange...
The swim caps were 'one size fits all' but not one size fits watermelon sized heads...
Tony and Vicky were in heat 4, wearing white...
Again, 'one size fits all' does not apply to my children...
What's that? You want to know where the photo of Vicky in her swim cap is? Would YOU pose for a photo like that? Let's just say it was not pretty...
I'm not sure how many people were in each heat, but there were a lot...
First leg of the race was a 1/4 mile swim. Once they get in the water, it's tough to keep track of your kid. We went to the place where they came out of the water to watch for Andy...
He hit the shore running! They had to run to their bikes, get on their biking gear and head off for a 7 mile bike ride over some pretty hilly terrain.
There were two more heats before Vicky and Tony would start so we had lots of time to go back to the start line. We couldn't see any of the bike race since I'm not as crazy as my kids and was NOT going to hike up and down those hills!
Mark and Morgan did not obey my command to smile pretty, but this very accommodating stranger did. Thank you, nice stranger!
Finally Tony and Vicky were ready to start...
It was a little easier to keep track of them in the crowd since Vicky was wearing a gold bathing suit and Tony had a yellow Livestrong bracelet on.
I almost missed Tony coming to shore. Too many young men in black spandex!
Vicky came running up on shore looking as though she was barely winded...
Well, hope she saved some energy for the biking segment!
Again, we did not see the bicycling but we were ready for the...
I think it was 3 miles, close at least!
Here comes Andy!
And after quite a wait (there were two other heats that went first), along came Tony...
And Vicky too!
We caught them at the finish line...
Andy ran back to check on Vicky as she finished. I love seeing how much my kids care about each other!
Can you believe she just swam 1/2 mile, biked 7 miles and ran 3?
I look more winded than that just getting out of bed in the morning!
We sat around waiting for the race results...
Finally! Tony came in third in his division! Andy was a very close 4th, less than a minute.
Of course, Morgan was the first to congratulate him.
They said they will do this race again next year and I'm willing to bet Morgan will participate too!
This little guy was not a race participant, nor was he with us, but he was just too adorable not to photograph!
I'm so proud of my athletes!
And it was all over...and time to go home and get ready for the rest of our day. I was feeling the need for a nap by then!
~sigh~ never a dull moment!
